DETECTIVES are hunting a masked gang who attacked a Halifax factory to steal hundreds of pounds worth of copper.
The terrifying raid happened at Brunswick Metal Spinners, on Brunswick Industrial Estate, South Street at 3pm on Tuesday.
Five men, all with scarves covering faces, ordered father and son Anthony and Gareth Oldreive, who run the business, into a corner while they loaded around two and a half tonnes of copper discs into a transit van. The metal taken was worth £17,5000.
“They were in and out in about eight minutes,” said Gareth, 31. “One of them came through the door quite casually and we could see there were several people behind him.
“He said ‘You know what we’re here to do’ and forced us into the corner.
“He was saying he was the boss and we had to listen him.
“I was wondering who they were, what was going to happen.”
Gareth, whose 66-year-old father started the firm 30 years ago, said they have had break-ins at night before, but never while they were working.
Detective Inspector Ashley Hewitt, from Calderdale CID, said his team believed the thieves will try to sell the metal on, and are urging anyone who is approached with any metal that sounds like the stolen discs to get in touch.
l Anyone with information about the theft, which happened between 3.45pm and 5.55pm on Tuesday, should call Calderdale CID on 0845 6060606 or CrimeStoppers, where information can be passed on anonymously, on 0800 555111.
