Bad back? A new centre with its roots in Italy is to open in Halifax offering free sessions on a massage bed.
A former furniture shop on Horton Street has been refurbished to house dozens of Italian massage beds which bosses say anyone can use free of charge.
The initiative offered by Italian firm Asiagem is being spearheaded by Angelo Iannillo, who owned the furniture shop for more than a decade, and his business partner Eugenio Iacono .
Mr Iannillo said: “After many years running a business in Halifax I’d like to give something back.
“I’ve always been proud of living in Halifax and the people have really adopted me. I hope this is something which everyone can benefit from.”
Mr Iacono already owns more than 30 similar stores in Italy and when he decided to set up his first UK centre, Mr Iannillo persuaded him to come to Halifax because of his love for the town.
Mr Iacono said: “I live in London and I wanted to set up a centre there, but Angelo has persuaded me to move here.”
The Asiagem centre will be unveiled on Sunday by the Mayor of Calderdale, Lisa Lambert and will be open to the public Monday to Saturday each week.
People can use the beds on a walk-in basis provided they bring a clean bed sheet and pillowcase with them.
Asiagem say the beds can help with conditions such as back pain, migraines and even diabetes.
