Matalan shop worker threatened with a needle

Police investigating an incident at a shop in Halifax in which a staff member was threatened with a needle have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

Between 10.40am and 10.45am on Friday, January 8, a man walked into Matalan, Berry Lane, Halifax and started placing items into two large gift bags.

He attempted to leave without paying, the man was stopped by a male staff member. He then emptied the contents of the bags on to the floor and threatened the staff member with a needle before leaving the store.

The man is described as white, aged in his mid 30s, approximately 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build with dark hair. He was wearing a black waterproof jacket, blue jeans and trainers.

Police Constable Abigail Jarvis, of Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “As part of our enquiries in to this incident, we are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man pictured in this CCTV image.

“Thankfully the staff member who confronted the suspect wasn’t harmed but it is of concern that the man involved has used a needle as a threat.”
