Vanessa Buckley, who runs Copley-based VADA, said: “I am always looking for up-to-date releases. I’d seen a few but nothing as exciting as Matilda.

“I feel privileged to be giving children the chance to be performing in this sensitive but fun musical.

“So many children have seen this on the West End but they will not have the chance to perform and be part of the Matilda experience.”

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the 20-minute abridged version of the story is written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Vanessa and her team are now on the look- out for a talented young cast of under-16s, including someone to play Matilda.

Auditions will be held in June and rehearsals will begin in July.

“We need a cast of children for the ensemble who need to be strong characters with lots of personality and we will also be auditioning for main parts including the title role of Matilda,” said Vanessa.

To audition can email [email protected] or telephone 07796 688571. Details of rehearsals and an expression of interest form will be sent out.
