Max adds realistic touch with good cause in mind

Young actor Max Holmes was determined to look the part for his role as Uncle Fester in this week's Calder High School production of The Addams Family - and not just to add a touch of authenticity.

Max, 15, who is also a Calder Valley Youth Theatre member, eschewed the usual “bald” wig for the part and shaved off his hair to both make it real and raise some valuable money for for Bloodwise, the blood cancer charity which encompasses all 137 blood cancers.

Max’s mum Mandy works with cancer patients at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust. He is already surpassing his initial fundraising target through his Just Giving page - https://www.justgiving.com/Amanda-Holmes5 - and people can still donate after the fun show’s run. Students have been on stage on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the final performance tonight.

The show opens with the Addams Family in the family graveyard, celebrating their yearly ritual to connect with their past and their ancestors. It follows Wednesday Addams who has to introduce her Ohioan finace, Lucas Beineke, to her weird and wonderful family. With a little help from Fester and ghostly ancestors, everything works out.

Drama staff member Lee Dobson said: “Students from Years 7-12 have been working intensely on the show, and it has been an absolute pleasure working with them. We hope that our audiences enjoyed watching the show as much as we have enjoyed making it!”
