A POPULAR member of the Irish community and voluntary worker has died aged 73.

Michael Snee was chairman of the Halifax and District Irish Society and a board member of the Federation of Irish Societies.

He was also a member and vice-chairman of health patient forum Kirklees Link.

Mr Snee, of Lightcliffe, was born in Leeds to Irish parents.

He worked in retail technology and settled in Calderdale in 1974.

“After his retirement he threw himself into committee work and organisations,” said his son Damian.

“He enjoyed that a lot and was also a big sports fan, especially Leeds Utd and horse racing.

“The family has had a lot of messages and it’s quite humbling to see how respected he was.”

The federation said Mr Snee was a tireless worker with the principles of inclusion, equality and fairness foremost on his agenda.

Link chairwoman Jean Moxon said he worked very had and would be missed by all who knew him.

He also leaves his wife, Patricia, who he married in 1963, daughters Julie Snee, Paula Snee, Gabriella Kenny and two grandchildren, Jude and Orlagh.

His funeral will be held at St Joseph’s Church, Brighouse, on Thursday, at 11 am, followed by cremation at Park Wood, Elland.
