Miss United Kingdom Beautiful to join Halifax Charity Gala procession

Atlanta McBride, 19, from Halifax, will take a day out of her busy schedule to support the event, which she has attended every year since she was a child.

“I remember first going to the Gala when I was in primary school, with my best friend at the time and my two older sisters,” said the Huddersfield University student.

“I was too short to have a go on the zip wire that year, but I came back the following year and went down it.

“As I got older, I went with friends, and I love going on the waltzer.”

Atlanta McBride has also won pageant titles Miss Eco UK, Miss Elegance and Miss Teen West Yorkshire which led to her being crowned Miss Teen England when she was 17.

She hopes to use her pageant success to bring attention to the gala and raise its profile, as well as supporting the gala queen, Steph Smith, and her attendant, Olivia Robinson.

This year’s event marks the gala’s 60th year and as is tradition, the grand procession will make its way through the heart of the town, led by the queen and her attendant.

There will be demonstration vehicles and walking entries from local Scout and Guide groups, Air Cadets and charities.

Chairman Lee Gething said “The Committee are thankful to the many local businesses andother organisations who provide their support into making our annual procession a success.

“Each year we’re pleased to see the huge turnout from the Halifax public who line the route through the town centre and donate to the many good causes we’re proud to support.”

The procession will leave the Eureka! Car Park at 11.30am and is expected to move through the town centre between 11.40 and 11.50, before arriving at Manor Heath at around 12.30pm, in time for the official opening.

Shoppers and visitors to the town are advised that there will be a number of short‐term parking suspensions as the procession passes.

The gala will be held this Saturday at Manor Heath Park.
