Mother of Lee Rigby recounts the torment of her son's death in new book

Lyn Rigby’s story charts the unfathomably difficult time she has endured since May 2013 when her 25-year-old son, was butchered on a London high street by two British-born young men compelled to avenge the killing of Muslims by the British armed forces.

In the book Lee Rigby: A Mother’s Story, Mrs Rigby has questions for government and the military, but overall it is her story of sorrow, her campaign for a memorial dedicated to Lee’s memory, her admiration for the ‘angels of Woolwich’ and, hopefully, belief that her son did not die in vain.

Lee Rigby, who had served in Afghanistan, married Southowram girl Rebecca Metcalfe at St Anne’s Church, Southowram, in October 2007.

The soldier was stabbed to death outside the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south London, in July 2013 while off duty.

His killers, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, were sentenced to life in prison in December 2013 after they were found guilty of his murder.

Mrs Rigby, of Middleton, Greater Manchester, has since set up the Lee Rigby Foundation as a way “to honour” her son and to help other bereaved families.
