Motorcycle festival is a roaring success for club

Families, friends and motorcycle groups from around the country gathered at Sowerby Bridge marina to celebrate the town's Classic Bike Show on bank holiday Sunday.

The show which started in 2013 saw pre 1980 classic bikes from all over the world on display including magnificent machines from Japan and America.

A Russian Speedway bike which was previously owned by world championships competitor also featured in the festival.

Richard Goodwin, organiser of the event, and past president of the local Rotary club said: “The show was bigger and better than before. People were having fun and the whole day went without a hitch.”

Major prizes were up for grabs on the sunny bank holiday in the Grand Classic Bike Show Raffle.

Some of the prizes included a week’s summer holiday in an Alpine apartment for two.

Younger visitors were also able to enjoy the day with a children’s painting competition with the finalists painting being displayed in the archways between The Moorings.

White Knights Yorkshire blood bikes were in attendance, with children taking great delight in sitting on their bike and setting off the siren along with the pilots from Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The day was a hit, with everyone able to enjoy crepes, hog roast and ice cream as well as a stand by Cobblestones Bar much appreciated by visitors.
