A MUM-of-five is today in hospital after being stabbed at her dad’s birthday party.
Claire Siddle, 28, of Denfield Crescent, Ovenden, Halifax, was knifed in the arm near her home on Tuesday night.
Officers Tasered and arrested a 45-year-old man after he allegedly chased residents while brandishing the knife and threatened officers.
Miss Siddle is being treated at Calderdale Royal Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Her father Billy Sayle, who lives next door to Miss Siddle, said: “I was having a bit of a birthday party here last night and it all kicked off.
“Claire had a very deep gash, which went to the bone.
“I dragged her into the house and put a towel around her arm because the blood was gushing out. A neighbour did first aid and put pressure on it.
“All the neighbours came rushing. It was like something from a Scream movie.”
Police said they Tasered the man they arrested after he ran towards them with the knife raised above his head.
Neighbour Betty Anderson, who has lived on the road for over 40 years, said: “We were watching TV and I heard some banging. There were loads of kids running up the road.
“A woman stopped her car to see what was going on and said her son-in-law chased the man down the road.
“There were a lot of police here until about 2am.
“The kids round here were terrified.”
Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said his children saw the stabbing.
He said: “The kids came running across here and said ‘She’s been stabbed’.
“They were shocked. It’s quite a good area now. But these things go on everywhere.
“It concerns me because of the kids. It’s not good that it’s happening so close.”
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called to an address on Denfield Crescent, Ovenden, to reports of a woman having been stabbed.
Reports suggested a man was chasing other people with a knife and making threats towards officers on their way to the scene.
On arrival the man ran away but when approached by officers he is alleged to have raised a knife above his head and then run towards them. It was then that specially trained officers discharged a Taser and the man was arrested without further incident.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding. He is in police custody.”
