Musicians have the crowd standing in the aisles at Epworth concert

The widely advertised concert featuring The South Axholme Academy Wind Band and G:Force took place recently at The Wesley Memorial Church, Epworth with all proceeds for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

The concert was a resounding success.

The first half belonged to South Axholme’s Wind Band under the direction of Andrew Jackson and comprised many of their most popular pieces including medleys of Great Movie Marches and Songs of the Great War.

Two soloists featured, Chris Grayson on cornet and Samantha Cook on tenor saxophone.

The band closed with their ever popular rendition of The Mama Mia Medley.

The band played to their largest audience in a while as it was supplemented by the 59 strong members of G:Force.

After the interval it was the turn of G:Force on their third visit to Epworth’s Wesley Memorial Church. G:Force are part of Formby High School’s Community Programme under the direction of their Musical Director, Steve Cook who in his introduction to their programme congratulated the Wind Band and extended an invitation to them to make a reciprocal visit to Formby.

Their programme featured many songs known to everyone and some more relative unknown in their inimitable gospel style with an outstanding contribution from their tenor sax player.

Their programme ended with O’ Happy Days with the entire audience on their feet in the aisles. What a conclusion to a great evening’s entertainment.

The evening was held to support Lindsey Lodge Hospice and was attending by Peggy Sivorn, the chair of The Isle of Axholme Supporter Group, supporting Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Peggy made a short speech thanking everyone for their support. The most notable fact concerning Lindsey Lodge Hospice Is that it requires to generate through fund raising over £4 a minute in order to fund the services that it provides for the people of North Lincolnshire.

The evening raised £400.26 and many thanks go to the Wesley Memorial Church ladies for providing the interval refreshments, the Wesley Memorial Church for allowing the use of the Church, South Axholme Wind Band, G:Force and all who contributed to the amount raised.mage3.JPG
