A fleet of new buses has been officially launched by First with Halifax rugby league stars at the Shay Stadium.

The seven buses, launched by Halifax RFLC players Mitch Cahalane and Adam Tangatta, will serve customers on 521, 522 and 523 routes between Halifax, Ovenden and Illingworth.

The Red Arrow routes will provide a high frequency service with up to 12 buses an hour.

The first of the seven buses was recently welcomed by the Mayor of Calderdale, Coun Lisa Lambert during the Catch the Bus Week events across the UK.

Oliver Howarth, First’s business manager in Halifax, said: “The brand new Red Arrow bus service offers high frequency, top quality and low cost fares that I’m confident customers will welcome.”

The seven single deck buses entered service this week and will provide passengers with luxury leather seat, free wi-fi and low emission engines.

The new £1.25 million buses are all also Department for Transport low carbon certified, making them amongst the most fuel efficient buses on the market.

Halifax MP, Holly Lynch, said: “Buses play an important role in our communities and in supporting the local economy.

“I welcome this investment by First in providing greener and more comfortable journeys and I’m sure this initiative will encourage more people to travel by bus.”
