New buyer found for popular cricket store

AN ESTABLISHED cricket firm, with one of its stores in Brighouse, has been taken over and are set to open their doors again on Monday.

Extra Cover Cricket has completed the purchase of Rochdale-based Romida Sports Limited from administrators PKF (UK) LLP Accountants and business advisers.

As part of the deal, Extra Cover Cricket – a specialist cricket retailer that was founded in Hemel Hempstead in 2010 - will reopen the former Romida stores in Brighouse, Newhey and Leatherhead.

Andy Woodard, founder of Extra Cover Cricket, said: “Romida is a great brand and has given customers outstanding service over many years. We look forward to building on this. We are delighted to be able to create 12 jobs on the back of this takeover and we look forward to serving Romida’s loyal customers in the future.”

Kerry Bailey and Jon Newell of PKF were appointed joint administrators of Romida Sports Limited last month and closed the store on Wakefield Road, Brighouse.

The firm has traded in the cricket sector for over 30 years after forming in 1978.

The company’s stores stocked a massive range of cricket bats, pads, gloves, footwear and clothing and cricket bags and it also specialised in junior cricket equipment.

Romida was reputedly the first to commission the manufacture of mini pad and gloves.

Joint Administrator Kerry Bailey, a partner in PKF’s Corporate Recovery team in Manchester, said: “We are pleased to announce the sale of the assets of Romida Sports Limited. We believe that the deal represents the best possible outcome and it also ensures three of the former Romida stores will reopen.”
