Actress and Northern Broadsides writer Deborah McAndrew has been named as the new chancellor of Leeds Trinity University.
She first joined Northern Broadsides, a theatre company which is based at Dean Clough in Halifax, in 1995 and is arguably most famous for starring in Coronation Street as Angie Freeman.
Her husband Conrad Nelson is the artistic director of Northern Broadsides. McAndrew recently adapted Charles Dickens’ novel Hard Times for the company and describes herself as an intermittent employee of the company.
On her appointment, she said: “It’s an absolute privilege to become Leeds Trinity University’s new Chancellor.
“Today was a wonderful occasion and a very proud day for me and my family. I am very passionate about education and I hope I can inspire students to achieve their potential.”
