PARALYMPIC hopeful Hannah Cockroft is looking set to represent Yorkshire as an Olympic torchbearer.
Wheelchair sprinter Hannah was nominated by Gary Verity, the chief executive of the tourism agency, Welcome to Yorkshire, has been selected and now only has to confirm her availability.
Hannah said: “It’s such great news and I am so happy. I’m going to make sure it fits in with my training schedule next year as this is going to be my first London 2012 moment. I’m also really hoping to see lots of other Paralympic athletes carrying the torch.”
Hannah now has to make sure she stays fit enough to nbe selected for next year’s paralympic team.
Gary Verity said: “Hannah was the obvious choice. She’s a fantastic inspiration to a large number of people not only here in Yorkshire but across the world as a world champion and record holder. She’s got a fantastic attitude to life and has been a real ambassador for Yorkshire in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The Olympic flame will make a 70-stop tour of Britain and spend just over six days in Yorkshire. It comes to Calderdale on June 24 and will visit Halifax and Brighouse.
