People are still buzzing over the visit of the Olympic flame to Calderdale last weekend and we have fantastic coverage in tomorrow’s paper.
Around 30,000 people lined the streets of Halifax and Brighouse to cheer on the torchbearers and make sure it was a day that will never be forgotten.
Rebecca Bell, 23, carried the torch through Brighouse. She said: “It was amazing - it’s al a bit of a blur but I was smiling so much that my face was hurting the next day.” Halifax farmer Frank Chislett carried the torch over North Bridge into Halifax. “It was even better than I expected,” he said.
“The amount of people that turned out and the friendliness they showed. If the Olympics is conducted in the same spirit it will be a wonderful occasion.”
Friday’s Courier will feature seven pages of pictures and reports from the day featuring exclusive shots from the official Olympic media van.
Plus our photgraphers and reporter were in the exclusive civic ceremony at the Piece Hall where 3,000 people gathered to welcome the torch.
