Calderdale Council explains reason behind residents' missed recycling collections

Questions have been asked by residents as to why collections have been missed or delayed.

A spokesperson for Calderdale Council said: "With pubs and restaurants closed and so many people working at home or on furlough, the amount of recycling has increased by nearly 50 per cent.

"We'd like to thank you all for recycling as much as you can, but be aware that we don't have additional vehicles to collect the extra waste.

"Our crews have been working longer and additional days to try and catch up, but the increase in volume of recycling has meant that we're still behind with some collections.

"We're really sorry if your collection was missed this week."

The Council has said that crews have been out over the weekend to try and catch up.

If your rubbish has not been taken away residents should bring it in until the next scheduled collection said the Council.

Recycling can be presented in alternative containers, if you don't have your original recycling containers, and it will be collected.
