However, Dr Phil Wood, Senior Responsible Officer for the West Yorkshire Vaccination Programme, is advising those people who have booked a COVID-19 vaccination today to only travel if they feel safe and confident in doing so.

"Their safety is very important to us and if there is any doubt, people should rearrange their appointment for another time," said Dr Wood.

"In particular, we are advising people not to travel to the centre at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield for their vaccination today because of particularly bad conditions in that area.

"Anyone with an appointment at John Smith’s today can rebook using the contact details provided on their booking letter.

"No-one will lose their opportunity to have a vaccine. People who have been invited through the national booking system can call them to rearrange their appointment and will get an alternative date for their vaccination.

"Those who have been offered a vaccine through their GP should contact their practice directly to rearrange if they cannot make their appointment.

"NHS telephone lines will be very busy today with people calling to rearrange their appointments, so people shouldn’t worry if they get through straight away. We will make sure everyone who needs to reschedule their vaccination gets a new appointment as soon as possible."
