Detectives step up hunt for killers after body of Dariusz Michalowski found in shallow Halifax grave

Following extensive enquiries officers located remains in land in Mixenden, Calderdale that is believed to be that of Dariusz Michalowski from Huddersfield.

The body was found in woods off Hays Lane in Mixenden, four miles from Halifax town centre.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are treating the death of Mr Michalowski as murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said his team have been searching the bleak and secluded sport for the past few days to find and locate the body of Mr Michalowski.

"We know that he was murdered and that his body was found in a shallow grave about 50 yards into the woodland.

"Dariusz was 44-years-old when he was killed. A normal working man he had come to the UK for work to support his wife and daughter.

"His family have had to wait over nine years for answers to his disappearance.

"This significant development now gives us two main opportunities.

"First to get some form of closure to his wife and daughter who have been informed of the discovery and have been supported by specially trained officers during this impossibly difficult time for them.

"Second is the identification of new and significant line of enquiry in order to bring Dariusz's murderers to justice.

"We now know how he died, we know where he died and clearly where his body was buried.

"We will tirelessly pursue these new opportunities to identify the people responsible for his death

"We know that there are people out there who know who killed him and who have information that would enable us to bring justice for Dariusz's family.

"I want to appeal directly to those people. You should know that we have never given up on finding out what happened to Dariusz and that the net is drawing tighter.

"You should contact myself now if you have any information that will assist this investigation and Dariusz's family.

"If you choose not to do so, please don't be surprised when my team come to you."

Over the last nine years five men have been arrested in connection with the investigation and have been released under investigation.

Mr Michalowski was last seen at his home address of Macauly Road in Birkby, Huddersfield on Sunday the March 13 at around 2:30pm (2011).
