Letter: Special trip by Deltic locomotive
The Deltics were withdrawn from regular service at the end of 1981 and the very last Deltic hauled York to Liverpool service was pulled by Alycidon on December 27, 1981.
Unusually the train was diverted via Bradford, Halifax and Sowerby Bridge due to engineering works on the normal route.

This time the train travelled the route from Leeds to Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge on its way to Liverpool. The train is pictured approaching Sowerby Bridge.
