Siddal businessman hands out free meals to vulnerable residents

Local business owner, Tony Kenny, is handing out 100 meals free of charge this Friday May 29 from 10am at Siddal Rugby Club car park.

The 'Simply Siddal' scheme, will ensure that vulnerable residents have access to healthy, hearty meals during lockdown.

All the meals are prepared by chef Anthony Hegney of Asparagus Green Catering, who catered stages of The Tour de Yorkshire and more recently NHS frontline workers.

Tony Kenny, said: “I set up Simply Siddal to give local people having a tough time something to look forward to at the weekend. If you have a family member, friend or neighbour in need, please pop along to Siddal Rugby Club from 10am on Friday and collect a free fantastic meal prepared by a wonderful local chef and give someone a special meal to look forward to.

"A huge thanks to Matt Turner, CEO of Huddersfield based tastecard, who has personally covered all costs this week. We would love more sponsors so we can keep this going and spread a little cheer in Siddal every week.”

In order to continue providing the meals, the Simply Siddal team need to raise £175 every week.

Tony is asking for local businesses and residents to help contribute towards the cost of feeding the community. Those interested should call Tony on 07467 800500 or click here to donate.To ensure there are enough meals to go round, there will be three meals per person maximum. Social distancing guidelines will be followed to ensure customer safety. All meals are prepared in 5-star hygienic kitchens, and meals will need to be refrigerated but will have a three-day shelf life. Both meat and vegetarian options will be available.
