Talking Politics: Be aware of bowel cancer

April was Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, aimed at encouraging people to visit hospital and get checked out for any signs or symptons.

Survival rates for this illness are very good if it is caught early, so this was timely campaign.

The recent report outlining that bowel cancer amongst men had increased by more than a quarter in the last 35 years was worrying.

I recently tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling for more research to be done to help fight the disease.

Bowel Cancer UK and the Make Bobby Proud campaign do some fantastic work in promoting bowel cancer awareness.

I hope that Bowel Cancer Awareness Month encouraged as many people as possible to get checked out and help ensure that survival rates for this, and all other cancers, continue to improve.
