Outstanding result for staff and students at latest Ofsted inspection

Staff and students have plenty to celebrate at the William Henry Smith School as it has been rated 'Outstanding' in all areas following its recent inspection by Ofsted.

The school, in Brighouse, received a judgement of outstanding in all eight areas.

Ofsted undertook an integrated inspection, over three days, of the school and residential care setting last month.

Inspectors commented on the school’s high quality of teaching and said there was “excellent subject knowledge” and “the whole school curriculum offer is broad, extensive and exceptionally well balanced”.

They were also impressed with the level of tailored care to suit the needs of each pupil.

The report said: “Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding. The school prepares pupils well for the life they will lead after school.”

Sue Ackroyd, principal, said: “This is a significant achievement for the school.

“There has been a focussed and relentless drive for excellence over the last few years, culminating in a whole school outstanding judgement.

“Residential care has now achieved its 13th consecutive outstanding judgement and for the first time ever in the school’s history, we have been judged outstanding across all areas of education and care.

“The fast pace since September has indeed been challenging, yet it has been immensely rewarding.

“Our students begin to see that anything is possible, their confidence, self-esteem and belief goes from strength to strength with support from some superbly skilled professionals from across education, care, therapy and our support services team.

“To say I am proud is an understatement.’’
