Overgate choir hit the high notes

Overgate Hospice Choir hit the high notes in their latest concert to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

Dignitaries from across Calderdale attended the ‘A Right Royal Do’ event which was held at Halifax Minster last month.

The successful event, which marked the Queen’s milestone, raised more than £2,800 for Overgate Hospice.

The audience, which included Mayor of Calderdale Coun Howard Blagbrough, Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe and hospice trustee Ingrid Holdsworth, were treated to music including Mozart’s evergreen Coronation Mass and Handel’s anthems composed for the coronation of Charles I and Queen Caroline.

The choir was specially formed in 1991 to sing Haydn’s Creation as part of the National Voices for Hospices event.

During the past 25 years, the choir has become well established and now holds four concerts a year as well as other smaller performances.

So far the ensemble has managed to raise more than £277,000 for the Elalnd-based hospice.
