Kind-hearted Overgate Hospice volunteer Margaret Tate was born in 1935 - the same year her favourite Boots No7 make-up range was launched in the UK - and

her family arranged for the delighted cosmetics fan to receive a makeover from staff at the chain’s store in the Airedale Centre, Keighley.

Margaret, of Shelf, has helped out in the hospice’s Halifax charity shop for 12 years, and has also volunteered as a greeter at Calderdale Hospital.

Consultants from the Boots make-up counter were happy to help the grandmother mark her special day after finding out she was the same age as the No7 brand, and also presented Margaret with flowers, chocolates and a gift bag after her step-daughter Geraldine McCormack nominated her for the treat.

“I was shocked but had the most wonderful day,” said Margaret.

“When I arrived they said to me, ‘You can’t be Margaret, we were expecting a little old lady!’ which was nice. My skin was cleansed, toned and moisturised and then I had my make-up done beautifully. I have since been out and bought the eyeshadow that was used.”

The retired Post Office telephonist then debuted her new look at a family meal with her daughter Angie, son-in-law Colin and grandson Matthew.

“I had a wonderful day and wanted to make the most of how I looked. I’ve always used No7 and wouldn’t go out without my make-up on.”

Boots beauty consultant Sara Dwyer gave Margaret her makeover.

“It was lovely to meet Margaret and I think it was a lovely gesture by her family to nominate her for this makeover. Ladies who are reaching their eighth decade often find that their skin also needs special care and the No7 products are ideal for their needs.”

In 1935 there were 11 ‘deluxe beauty preparations’ sold as part of the No7 range.
