Oyez, oyez Halifax is set to welcome its first town crier championship.
The first Town Crier Championship will take place at the Woolshops Shopping Centre with participants from across the UK, including Stafford, Huddersfield and Bridlington.
Competitors will compete in two roundson April 11 and will be given two shops to cry for.
Les Cutts, Halifax Town Crier, said: “I’m excited to host the first Woolshops Town Crier Championships.
“A good town crier has a warm persona, is welcoming and is confident when speaking to people. They also need to courteous and traditional. We’ll also be looking at the accuracy of the cry, dicition and and inflection, volume and clarity and whether they are engaging the audience.”
The competition will take place from 11.00am to 2.30pm and anyone is welcome to watch.
Les has been Halifax’s town crier since 2001 and currently works as a good in supervisor for Parfetts Cash and Carry. He also holds the titles of Bellman of the Borough of Calderdale, is the crier to Hebden Royd Town Council and is the North Eastern representative of the Loyal Company of Town Crier’s.
