Patrols stepped up for fireworks

EXTRA police patrols are taking place across the district to ensure a safe bonfire weekend.

Inspector Derek Benn, from Calderdale’s Community Safety Partnership, said this time of year can bring with it a rise in yob behaviour.

“We want people to work with us to help everyone enjoy the celebrations,” he said. “Parents should keep a close eye on what their children are doing and we will continue to work with our partners to help prevent anti-social behaviour or criminal activity.”

Nigel Hotson, Calderdale district commander for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, added: “We would urge members of the public to go to an organised event. You will see a fantastic firework display and you will also be supporting your local community and often charity too. Our firefighters and community safety staff have been working hard during recent weeks to educate young people about the dangers of fireworks, and we hope this will pay off when people have an enjoyable and safe Bonfire Night.”
