Calderdale pools to stay closed as waves of businesses to open this weekend

Swimming facilities in Halifax will remain shut as more businesses open their doors this weekend.

All Council-run sports and leisure centres closed in March amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The facilities which will remain closed include Brighouse Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Halifax Swimming Pool, North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax, Sowerby Bridge Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Todmorden Sports Centre, Queens Road Gym and Mixenden Activity Centre.

Councillor Susan Press, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, said: “We’re continuing to follow national guidance – the Government has not yet advised that we are able to consider reopening swimming pools.

“We will not reopen our pools until it is safe to do so and will await further guidance from the Government. We continue to review our services and all options for a safe return to business.

We will let people know as soon as any decision is made to reopen facilities.”
