No cases have been confirmed in the borough, but schools are hoping their proactive approach means pupils will avoid becoming infected.
Barkisland Primary School sent out a letter to parents on Tuesday saying they would be conducting a deep clean of the school as a precautionary measure.
The school said they were following the relevant guidance from Public Health England.
Becky Schofield, head teacher, said: “The deep clean will be undertaken at the school in order to minimise any risks when you have large groups of children. It will not mean the school is to close.
“We have issued advice as a result of concerns over families who are connected to the school who have visited the affected regions.”
Hipperholme Grammar School sent a letter home to parents with advice from Public Health England and has placed advisory posters around the school. Head Jackie Griffiths said: “Whilst we do not wish parents to worry unduly and pupils should attend school as normal, it is sensible to take the precautions recommended by Public Health England.
“Pupils will be given guidance on good hygiene and we advise that anyone exhibiting symptoms remains in isolation for the recommended period.”
During half term students from Todmorden High went on a skiing trip to Austria, which shares a border with north Italy.
This week, 12 people in Austria were quarantined in a hotel, after coming in contact with a couple that tested positive for the virus.
However, Public Health England “do not feel (the school) has a concern at the moment”.
“We’ve been proactive and have no concerns regarding the virus,” said Debra Todd, the school’s business manager.

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed that there have been 13 cases of coronavirus and as of Tuesday, a total of 6,795 people have been tested, of which 6,782 were confirmed negative and 13 positive.
Symptoms manifest themselves within 2-14 days after contact with someone infected, and are transferred via coughing.
Symptoms include a high temperature, coughing and difficulty breathing.
