Dunelm Halifax's Christmas mission to help vulnerable off to 'fantastic' start despite lockdown

High street store Dunelm has partnered with grassroots organisations in Halifax to ensure vulnerable people get presents this Christmas in a scheme well received by customers.

Christmas trees with names and ages of vulnerable people popped up in Halifax's store, in Pellon Lane, for customers to take and put together a shoebox donation.

Duty manager Catherine Burnham said Dunelm are working with 'partners' within Halifax and the surrounding including Angelcare UK, The Lighthouse Project, Primary Schools, refuges and other Summerfield House Nursing Home.

She said: "Dunelm have launched a campaign this year called ‘Delivering Joy This Christmas’.

"Our partners supply us with a completed list of vulnerable people. We then make up a gift tag for each person and place it on our Christmas Tree.

"Our customers take the tags from the tree and buy the gifts. They bring them back to store where colleagues will wrap them between December 12 until 18. Once wrapped they will be delivered to their destination.

"Parents are taking tags for their children and grandchildren to buy gifts for people less fortunate than themselves. It’s really heart warming to see and feel this community spirit.

"Our Facebook group members are nominating schools, care homes and refuges that they think will benefit from this."

"The community response we have had in Halifax has been absolutely fantastic."

Every Dunelm throughout the Country, 173 stores are participating in this campaign.
