Ex-Royal Marine from Halifax hoping to raise thousands with world record attempt

A former Royal Marines Commando from Halifax is to attempt to break a world record and raise thousands of pounds for charities with an extreme fitness challenge.

Former Royal Marines Commando Ben Jackson will attempt to complete the most amount of chest-to-ground burpees ever within 24 hours. The current record is 9,119 and he is aiming to complete 10,000, which would be over 400 per hour every hour for a full day.

The 42-year old, who works for Megson Utilities and is a part-time trainer at the 1Vigor gym in Copley, is raising money for the Royal Marines Charity, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Overgate Hospice with a target of £10,000 – one pound for each burpee he hopes to complete.

The World Record attempt will begin at 5pm on Friday 17th April at 1Vigor.

Ben said: “As a former Commando, this challenge is driven by the enduring values instilled during my service in His Majesty’s Royal Marines: self-discipline, courage, strength, determination and cheerfulness in the face of adversity.

“I know this challenge will push the limits of human endurance and I will be focused on succeeding for the amazing charities who I have selected to benefit from the world record attempt. They all mean a lot to me for very different and personal reasons, and I hope it’ll give back to them as well as inspiring resilience and demonstrating what can be achieved.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, and to everyone who will do in the weeks ahead as we build up to the 24 hour challenge.”
