Phil Griffin was born and raised in Southowram but now lives and works in Germany.

After seeing a story about the film on the Halifax Courier website, he made contact with Trevor Simpson, who he already knew, and Peter Thornton, who had put the film together.

He said: “I think the film is a terrific advert for the Calderdale area and the stories of all the local people on the film reveal great memories of my own growing up in Calderdale.”

He told Trevor he would like to donate some money to Pathways, the company behind the film, if they would ensure that copies of the films could be delivered to Calderdale care homes so residents could enjoy the film and it would remind them of their own days growing up in the area.

Peter said: “This great donation by Phil will help to enhance memories of Calderdale to the care home residents during these difficult times.

“Because of this magnificent gesture by Phil, this Pathways film will brighten up the lives of many hundreds of care home residents in Calderdale.”

Any care home residents or their families can ask their care home staff to contact Peter on 01422 202863 or by email [email protected] to request their free copy of the film.

Peter has started to make contact directly with care homes and it is hoped that Phil’s idea will help make Christmas in Calderdale care homes one to remember amid all the problems that 2020 has had through the coronavirus crisis.

“We hope that we can help make Christmas a little brighter for many people in care,” Peter added.
