Yorkshire Children’s Trust offer emotional and financial support to children with any long term illnesses or disabilities, especially those who would fall through the ‘funding gap’ of traditional support channels.

Mental health of children and their families is always a priority of the charity, since September 2019, Yorkshire Children’s Trust has provided a person-centred approach to counselling and play therapies to support children, their siblings and families through a range of mental health issues including bullying, dealing with an illness and many more issues.

During the current Coronavirus pandemic, the charity is acutely aware that this can exacerbate an already difficult situation, so Yorkshire Children’s Trust are here to help with free support to families with Skype calls for the children, support calls for parents alongside worksheets which can be emailed across.

Sarah Thompson, the charity social worker and counsellor said: “We are very aware that a family dealing with the new diagnosis of a child’s illness, or having a child suffering from a mental health issue can have a profound effect on the family, especially due the pressures of having to stay at home during the current lockdown.

“Yorkshire Children’s Trust would like to continue to offer support to families, we can provide totally free emotional support over Skype, phone calls and with free worksheets via email, and for those needing further support, this can be arranged in our brand new counselling suite after the lockdown has been

relaxed.”

For families looking to get extra emotional support, Yorkshire Children’s Trust are also able to offer a free respite holiday for the family later in the year at their own holiday home on the East Coast of Yorkshire.
