Paul Ioannou, who owns Galactic Golf, on Horton Street, said the entertainment venue has closed due the financial implications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Ioannou said Calderdale entering a 'local lockdown' on July 30 was also a factor into the venue's closure.

He said: "It's with great sadness that we must announce the permanent closure of Galactic Golf at Pennine Retail Park, Horton Street, with effect from September 4.

"The pandemic and ongoing local lockdown restrictions has forced us to take this difficult decision.

"This has sadly lead to the loss of many jobs and the loss of a unique and first rate leisure activity for Halifax.

"It's absolutely heart breaking, but it's the only way for the rest of our business to move forward in the current economic climate."

"We had hoped to continue trading at Galactic Golf for many more years, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support and kind comments and reviews, and they will still be welcome at Electric Bowl," said Mr Ioannou.

The owner confirmed Electric Bowl, on Commercial Street, remains closed under local lockdown restrictions currently in place by government.

He said: "Everything is in place to open Electric Bowl in a safe and responsible manner, which will adhere to all Covid-19 secure guidelines, as soon as the government confirms we can open.

"We understand it has been confusing for our customers, and we apologise, but we feel the government information to date has been vague and misleading, and has lead to several false starts with regard to our reopening.

"The bowling industry as a whole is mystified as to why we are the last leisure activity to be allowed to reopen, and the Ten-pin Bowling Association has worked hard to lobby the government on our behalf.

"As soon as a date is confirmed for the lifting of the local lockdown and we are able to reopen, we will open on that date.

"We're looking forward to welcoming customers old and new.

"Once the Electric Bowl has reopened, ten pin bowling will be added to our range of activities available, including snooker, pool and motorsport simulators."
