Halifax’s inaugural Urban Trail, which will see runners running through some of the town’s finest buildings.
The organisers of the event, held on Easter Monday to help raise funds for Overgate Hospice, claim the race was the first time that the popular French idea of ‘trails urbains’ has been staged in Britain
Andrew Bibby, race director, said: “We had almost five hundred runners of all ages running through the streets and buildings of Halifax on Easter Monday, and since then we’ve been inundated with comments back from the participants saying what an amazing experience it was. One person told me it was one of the most wonderful and astonishing experiences of her life. Halifax can be proud to have staged Britain’s first ever urban trail of its kind!
“Those of us who organised it are enormously grateful for the 70 volunteers who gave up their Bank Holiday to support the event, including those from the Rotary Club, Overgate Hospice and the Piece Hall. We’re delighted to be able to be making shortly a significant donation to Overgate from the event’s takings.”
