Meg gets the charity chop

RAISING MONEY for charity can be done in very many different ways, not excluding a sponsored hair chop.

Meg Oxford, 28, from Sowerby Bridge, has had 15 inches of her locks chopped by Hebden Bridge Hair Bar, and the hair was donated to The Little Princess Trust who provide real hair wigs for children who have lost hair due to cancer treatment.

On what compelled her to do it, Meg said: “Over the past few years my extended family and close friends have dealt with relatives suffering with cancer. Ranging from elderly relatives to children. I’ve seen the pain it can cause and I’ve heard what such tremendous support they have received from organizations such as The Little Princess Trust and MacMillan, I wanted to do my bit to support, so what better than to chop off all my hair and fundraise for the organizations that support those who need it. “

Jodi Goodacre, 23, who owns the Hair Bar, said: “Since both of our business went through the Princess Trust, I was happy to help when they reached out.”

Now both Jodi and Meg are focusing on developing their businesses and helping the local community.

This isn’t the first charitable act Meg has been involved in, as last year she fundraised for the Calder Valley Flood Fund Appeal following the 2015 Boxing Day floods, and raised £1,900.

Meg says she plans to do a more complex fundraiser for Cancer Research in a few years time.

She has currently raised £740, as she smashed her £500 target, even before a single hair had been chopped.

“It’s been such fun, even if slightly scary yet unbelievably exciting,” added Jodi.
