The financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic means Overgate is facing more uncertainty about their future, with all of their 13 charity shops being forced to close their doors during the second lockdown and fundraising events being cancelled.

So the hospice has launched a Christmas Appeal campaign to raise vital funds to help them to continue to care throughout the festive period.

Their Inpatient Unit will be open throughout Christmas and the team will be doing everything they can to make it a special time for the families in their care, many of whom will be spending their last Christmas together.

The Day Hospice team will be continuing their care remotely throughout December with virtual sessions and clinics and their Outreach Team will continue to support some patients in their own homes to access the virtual sessions.

One of the hospice’s nurses, Sandra Bowles, said: “Christmas, like for so many of you, is a special time at the hospice.

“For the vast majority of the patients in our care, this will be their last Christmas.

“I will be here on Christmas Day, welcoming families, pouring Baileys, and pulling crackers but Christmas at the Hospice isn’t just December 25.

“Some of our patients will sadly never see this day so the whole of the team at Overgate make Christmas happen whenever the patient needs or wants it.

“Whether they want a quiet, personal time with loved ones, or a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, we do what we can to make it special.”

Overgate’s Director of Income Generation, Laura Golding, said: “Christmas at the hospice is magical.

“As my mum is a nurse at the Hospice I have visited on Christmas Day to see her for many years.

“However, this year, I won’t be able to as we continue to keep everyone safe.

“But I know that your support will mean the world to the doctors and nurses who will be working on Christmas Day as well as the families in their care. Please donate if you can.”
