Piece Hall turns purple to raise awareness of fight to eradicate Polio

Piece Hall CEO Nicky Chance Thompson DL, Mayor Coun Dot Foster and Rotary Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire District Governor Andrew Bateman welcomed more than 50 rotarians, friends and family to witness the special occasion.

As well as the spectacular lights, there was a pop up stand with information about how Rotary is helping to eradicate the world of Polio.

Since 1985, Rotary’s key humanitarian priority has been to rid the world of polio. Rotary spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were over 1,000 polio cases a day in 125 countries, paralysing and even killing children. Today, the number of cases is down by 99.9 per cent.

Two Rotarians, Past District Governor ken Robertshaw and Rtn Ramesh Mistry, had their previously purple coloured hair and beard shaved off by local hairdresser Jay Byrne, which raised more than £2,800, while £280 was donated to the pop up stand.
