Matthew is one of only four living British composers in Classic FM’s hall of fame and has earned national and international acclaim.

Halifax Choral Society will be joined by the choir of Halifax Minster, the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and pianist Chris Pulleyn. Audiences will also enjoy music by some of England’s most loved composers, reflecting the themes woven through The Breath of Life - nature, renewal and the celebration of life itself.

Matthew’s music will also feature in two further events this summer involving members and friends of Halifax Choral Society.

On Monday, June 29 at 1pm, choir members and others will take part in Anne Lister - A Concert of Music Inspired by Love, Life and Beauty, a free lunchtime concert forming part of the Halifax Minster Summer Festival.

Centred around newly composed settings from Anne Lister’s diaries by Halifax composer Debra Page, the concert explores themes of identity, reflection, solitude and landscape through an intimate programme of contemporary vocal music.

Later in the summer, on Saturday, August 15, Halifax Choral Society will appear at Proms on the Lake, part of Calderdale’s wider Stage at the Lake celebrations marking 100 years of Shibden Park.

Set against the park’s lakeside backdrop, the large-scale open-air gala concert will feature the English Chamber Orchestra, Halifax Choral Society and Northern Ballet in an evening of favourite classics. The spectacular choral finale to the concert is expected to include further music by Matthew Coleridge.

Anthony Gray, Conductor and Artistic Director of Halifax Choral Society, said: "These events demonstrate the breadth and ambition of Halifax Choral Society members - from intimate contemporary works rooted in Halifax’s own history to large-scale festival performances with internationally recognised musicians and orchestras.

"We are especially delighted to welcome Matthew Coleridge to Halifax for what promises to be a truly memorable concert.”
