Rescue teams called to injured walker on moorland

CVSRT were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service on Friday Jaunary 2 at 10.48am requesting urgent assistance with an injured walker who had slipped on the wet ground.

CVSRT and Yorkshire Air Ambulance were both despatched to the scene with Helimed conducting an aerial search.

Essential kit and several members from Calder Mobile 3 were then airlifted directly onto the moor, whilst other teams accessed the moorland on foot from a nearby farm.

The casualty was treated before being loaded into the vacuum mattress and onto the Alpine stretcher.

The stretcher was then rigged for haul and sledged back up the steep ground to the helicopter and flown down the valley to the waiting land ambulance crew.

During the rescue a CVSRT vehicle sustained damage whilst accessing the remote off-road location rendering it unable to use the 4x4 system.

Team members were able to use their newly acquired winching skills and managed to return the vehicle to terra firma with the help of CM3.

A spokesperson for CVSRT said: “As the first incident of 2015, this was an excellent example of teamwork between YAA, YAS and CVSRT, although one of our emergency response vehicles will now be out of action for a few days with the estimated repair costs in the region of £350.”
