Todmorden couple complete charity challenge for Cancer Research UK

A couple from Todmorden have completed a circuit of the Mary Townley Loop in a day on mountain bikes for Cancer Research UK.

Sean and Amanda Mclernon cycled 47 miles and a gruelling 6,500 ft of ascent on July 1, crossing moorland, bridleways and byways.

Amanda joined the Todmorden Cancer Research committee 30 years ago and has been part of the successful fundraising team. She is currently the treasurer.

Both her parents had suffered different forms of cancer, which is why she originally joined the already established local group.

”We set off from the Ram Inn at Cliviger, ascending up through the mists and drizzle to the moors,” said Sean.

”Luckily the weather improved throughout the day. 11 and a half hours later we approached the Ram, feeling jubilant and relieved. A welcoming party with some fizz and Vaseline clapped us in.

”We would like to thank everyone who supported us along the way with refreshments and words of encouragement.
