Trevor aims to be flush with success on the track

Trevor Duckworth has been racing and building machines from his garden shed for more than 50 years and over that period has broken 21 world and 28 British national records.

Now at 69-years-old, he is hoping his latest creation will see him enter the record books with the world’s fastest toilet.

“We wanted to something a bit zany and wacky,” said Mr Duckworth, who also runs Duckworth Installations.

“We looked what was out and decided we could do a toilet. The toilet all has to be fully functional with a flush and everything.”

Working with Paul Cumpstone, it has taken them a couple of months to convert a go-cart to accommodate the toilet.

Along with moving the accelerator and brake medals, they have had to build in handle bars and transfer the throttle and brakes through them.

The record attempt will take place at the Straight Liners event at Elvington airfield near York on the weekend of May 17 and 18.

The current world record was set in Australia when the toilet was clocked at 55mph,

Criteria for measuring British and world record attempts have been altered by the Auto-Cycle Union. Their speed will be measured over a mile before going through a speed trap.

“We are hoping to break that and possibly reach up to 70mph,” Mr Duckworth said. “We hope to test it very soon and see how we get on.

“There has been a real resurgence in these type of events over the past few years.

“We are hoping our latest addition will add a bit of theatre and be fun for the kids who come to watch.”

He will also be going for records on three bikes, two cycle cars (350cc and 500cc) and a 350cc solo cyclecar.

“We are also on the lookout for any sponsors and help for the vehicle, so anyone who might be able to do that would be brilliant.”
