The majority of the 32 participants at the event were from Halifax, Elland, Greetland, Holywell Green and Brighouse.

Tim Ingram, one of those who took part, said: “Everyone battled gallantly around the 12k course which included 25 punishing obstacles with 100 tons of mud, 10 tons of ice, trenches, swamps, fires pits, electric shocks. You name it they faced it. Thankfully everyone survived to tell the tale, although the leopard print leggings that everyone wore barely survived the ordeal with a few embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions!

“Ali served in the Royal Marines and whilst we can’t emulate his time in the forces, we can attempt some of the extreme training he endured, or similar, whilst

he served. Total Warrior is the pinnacle of obstacle racing.”

Father-of-two Ali died from cancer in January, aged 54, but his friends and family are determined to raise as much money as possible for two charities that offered support to him and his family.

Their next fundraiser is a gig at Elland Cricket Club on Friday featuring some of Ali’s favourite music, and which will also feature an auction and a raffle.
