Pizza chain saves the day as school's London trip is cancelled after terror attack

A school has praised a pizza chain in Halifax for brightening the day of its pupils when a residential trip to London was cancelled after Saturday's terror attack.

Year 6 pupils at Abbey Park Primary Academy, Illingworth, were due to travel to the capital on Tuesday for an end of year trip.

Staff made the “heartbreaking” decision to cancel in light of the attack.

Vice principal Philippa Kermotschuk said: “We were due to dine at Pizza Express in London before visiting the Apollo Theatre, so I decided to contact Pizza Express in Halifax to see if they could help us in any way to give the children some form of enjoyable experience.

“They were remarkable. They accommodated us straight away, giving us a 50 per cent discount on the total bill, providing balloons for each child and giving the children opportunities to watch and take part in dough flaring with the chef, Neil.

“We had a wonderful afternoon and can’t thank them enough, especially Beth, Rebecca and Neil.”
