There was plenty to celebrate as the Friends of Wyke officially opened their new playground.

The group successfully secured £90,000 of funding from the big lottery fund, the Veolia environmental trust, Bradford Council and through their own fund-raising.

Work began to replace the old playground in Huddersfield Road, Wyke, in January, and although it has been in use for a month, it was only officially opened at the weekend. It was opened by the grandchildren of former members Trevor Wilkinson and John Russel, who both died recently.

Friends of Wyke committee member Peter Walker said: “The old recreation ground really did need replacing because it was out of date. We’re very pleased with the new playground.”
