A NATIONAL awards ceremony will be held in Halifax later this month.

The Ovation Awards are designed to celebrate new writing for theatre. They are followed by a one-night play festival.

It is hoped the awards will provide a platform for writers to showcase their work and get feedback from industry professionals and theatre goers.

Writers submit short plays and monologues, each lasting around seven minutes. The shortlisted 12 pieces are in the running for three awards.

On the night Best New Writing, Best Actor, and Best Production gongs will be handed out – with two chosen by judges and another by the audience.

The Judges will be actress Roberta Kerr, who played Wendy in Coronation Street and playwrights Nick Lane and John Goodrum.

The ceremony, launched by Elland-based Planet Rabbit productions, will be at Square Chapel, Halifax. on November 12 from 7pm.
