Calderdale Covid-19 infection rates fall as health chief urges people to keep up good work

Calderdale has seen a small fall in COVID-19 cases in the last seven days over the preceding period.

But rates are still too high says the borough’s Public Health Director Debs Harkins, who has urged people to keep up the good work in helping reduce the spread of the virus by staying at home where possible, keeping socially distance if you have to go out, not mixing with others and wearing a face covering.

NHS Digital summary data for February 14 to February 20 (seven day interval figures) show Calderdale to have a COVID-19 case rate of 172.1 per 100,000 people with 364 cases, a six per cent decrease – the rate was 179.7 in the previous period.

The February 14 to February 20 data shows Calderdale had a one per cent increase in triages – the number of calls from people who think they may have coronavirus to the various NHS lines – with 145, a triage rate of 69 per 100,000 of people.

The Government’s figures show the number of positive cases in each area in Calderdale for the seven days to February 10 were as follows.

Todmorden West and Cornholme, 11; Todmorden East and Walsden, 4; Hebden Bridge, 6; Mytholmroyd and Cragg Vale, 15; Ripponden, Rishworth and Barkisland, 10; Greetland and Stainland, 19; Elland, 20; Rastrick West, 14; Rastrick East, 12; Brighouse, 13; Clifton and Bailiff Bridge, 11; Hipperholme, 8; Northowram and Shelf, 14; Central Halifax and Boothtown, 17; Sowerby Bridge, 10; Sowerby and Luddenden Foot, 12; Norton Tower and Mount Tabor, 20; Savile Park, 12; Skircoat Green, 18; Southowram and Siddal, 16; Pellon East, 29; Pellon West and Highroad Well, 19; King Cross, 7; Wheatley and Ovenden West, 21; Ovenden East, 8; Mixenden, 10 and Illingworth and Ogden, 21.

The Government figures by local area are classed as Middle Super Output Areas – each has an average population of around 7,200.
