Daily support being offered to Calderdale care homes to help its residents and staff

Calderdale Council is offering daily support to care homes in the borough as they try to cope with the coronavirus crisis.

New measures announced by Government including increased testing has been welcomed by the council’s Cabinet member for Adults’ Services, Health and Wellbeing, Coun Bob Metcalfe and the authority is working with health and social care partners to ensure this is delivered locally.

Coun Metcalfe (Lab, Town) said the council was working with all the borough’s care providers to keep residents and care workers safe throughout the pandemic.

This included support to manage positive cases and where possible helping provide cover for sick or self-isolating care workers.

“We’re in touch with all the care homes across Calderdale daily to make sure they are able to provide the care and support that their residents need.

“Where there are positive cases, or where residents are showing symptoms, we work with each care home and with our infection control team, to do all we can to stop the spread of the virus.

“Where care workers are either unwell or self-isolating we are providing additional care workers to target support where it is needed most,” he said.

The availability of increased testing announced by Government was welcome, said Coun Metcalfe.

“We welcome the availability of increased testing and are working with partners to ensure this is delivered locally.

“We are arranging testing for care workers who are absent from work because they or a family member have symptoms, so that they can get back to work as soon as possible,” he said.
