Plans in place to protect Calderdale community teams working outdoors

A plan is in place to ensure members of Calderdale Council’s community team can work safely outdoors, the authority says.

Members of Calderdale Council’s Safer, Cleaner, Greener teams who had been working on rota have returned to full time work.

Concern has been expressed by a member of the public about whether or not it was safe to do this and whether cutting grass or working on parkland could be considered essential.

But the council said the team’s work was reviewed in line with Government guidance with a programme of work drawn up for the coming weeks.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for Public Services and Communities, Coun Susan Press (Lab, Todmorden) said: “We must all follow the Government guidelines on social distancing and do all we can to protect ourselves and each other from the coronavirus.

“Together with other Council services, Safer, Cleaner, Greener team has reviewed all its functions in line with the current government guidance and this has resulted in a Waste, Litter and

Public Realm Management Plan which sets out the work programme for the next few weeks.

“This has been reviewed by our Health and Safety team and by our colleagues in Public Health and has been deemed to be safe to carry out, with appropriate clothing, equipment and hygiene products available for all staff.

“However, if any members of staff do have particular concerns then they should raise these with their manager who will arrange for the situation to be reviewed by appropriate professionals.”
