A dedicated teen is encouraging young people across the district to speak up about the issues important to them.
Ella Beevers, the elected Member of the UK Youth Parliament and Chair of the Calderdale Youth Council is bringing the annual ‘Make your Mark’ ballot to Calderdale’s youngsters.
In the ballot, which runs until October 10, young people across the country will be asked what issues matter most to them, in order to determine the focus of the UK Youth Parliament’s debate on November 14.
Ella, 14, said: “It is of the upmost importance to give young people of this generation a say in issues which affect their lives.
“How could one possibly make changes for the good of others without knowing what matters to them.
“My goal is to get at least 5,000 young people to participate in the Make Your Mark ballot but also to raise awareness that the opinions of young people are taken seriously. Every vote counts.”
Last year, the Make Your Mark ballot surveyed the opinions of over 478,000 young people, making it the largest youth consultation of its kind in the UK, but it is hoped that one million young people will take part this year.
